Disney Princess—
A fresh twist to the beloved match-3 puzzle genre was designed in partnership with Heavenspot to blend the addictive fun of games like Candy Crush with the timeless magic of Disney. This experience takes players on a royal journey through the kingdoms of eleven iconic Disney Princesses.
As the main UI designer, I crafted the game’s visual interface and player experience, ensuring every element felt approachable, intuitive, and true to the Disney Princess brand. From game boards and menus to power-up visuals, I designed a cohesive system that balanced playful storytelling with functional clarity, translating complex mechanics into a seamless, visually engaging journey for players.

The core gameplay blends familiar match-3 mechanics with unique princess-inspired power-ups and villain-themed obstacles for a fresh, story-driven experience.

Balancing approachability with strategic depth.

Insights and Defining Challenges

The challenge was to create a match-3 game experience that felt as instantly familiar and addictive as Candy Crush while staying true to the Disney Princess brand’s storytelling magic. With eleven iconic princesses, each with distinct personalities, kingdoms, and villains, the game needed to balance casual approachability with strategic depth so players of all ages could enjoy it while feeling the growing challenge as levels progressed.

Through interviews with clients and stakeholders, we gathered valuable insights to better understand and empathize with the needs their target audience may have along with addressing any potential pain points they may experience. This allowed us to dive deeper into defining the project's challenges.

Early testing with Functionality

To help the team determine the priority of information, I designed the placement and layout of content in wireframe form which allowed for rapid iteration, feedback and discussions.

Once approved, I developed the wireframes into a working prototype to help simulate user interaction with the product and address any potential pain points discovered throughout the early stages.

Behind the Design Ecosystem

The visual design combines the whimsy of Disney Princess worlds with the vibrancy of modern puzzle games. Each stage reflects its princess through distinct color palettes, themed backdrops, and power-ups tied to her traits, while villain-inspired obstacles add contrast with darker, moodier tones.

The game board remains clean and intuitive, with gems and power-ups featuring subtle animations for satisfying feedback. UI elements adopt a storybook elegance with modern clarity, ensuring the entire experience feels magical, cohesive, and accessible for players of all ages.

The Disney Princess Match-3 Adventure demonstrated the importance of balancing brand authenticity with engaging gameplay mechanics. Creating princess-specific power-ups and villain-inspired obstacles taught us how to weave narrative and strategy together seamlessly.

The tiered difficulty levels reinforced the value of player progression and reward systems, while the visual design process highlighted how distinct theming and cohesive UI can elevate the overall player experience.
